As crazy as it is to believe that it is almost August, I could not be more excited to have the opportunity to head out to Chicago next week for my cousin’s wedding. The last time I was in Chicago I was there for Lollapalooza and as magical of an experience as it was, I am bummed that we didn’t get to explore the city more. In fact, the only slice of “Chicago pizza” we had was from a food truck at the festival where we were from 9am-9pm everyday rocking out. Needless to say, this time our city getaway will be a little less chaos and a little more casual exploring…plus tons of food.
So in honor of our upcoming vacation, I thought I would share everything that I am packing for this trip. I have done packing round ups in the past, but never one that included exclusively eco-friendly clothes. That is why this time I used Lyst.com’s services and found all of the best ethical fashion items every girl needs!
5 Comfortable Tops
Everyone needs a few comfy tops to get them through the steamy summers of Chicago, LA, New York, where ever you are jet setting off to. I love the options from Alternative Apparel, Organic by John Patrick, Eileen Fisher (not just for the older generation anymore), and & Other Stories.
- Eco-jersey tank (Alternative Apparel)
- Breathable easy tank (Organic by John Patrick)
- Crew neck graphic tee (Alternative Apparel)
- Comfortable organic solid tee (Eileen Fisher)
- Tropical button down (& Other Stories)
Every time I go to pack, bottoms seem to be something that I struggle with. I tend to put fifteen skirts and a billion pairs of denim cutoffs into by bag before realizing how over zealous I am being. Now, thanks to the “5, 4, 3, 2 ,1 rule”, I limit myself to running shorts, fun shorts, denim shorts and an A line skirt (sometimes I throw in some extra denim to satisfy my weird shorts cravings).
- Cotton A-line skirt (H&M)
- Easy bright knit short (Faherty)
- Denim shorts (Joe’s Jeans)
- Running shorts (H&M)
3 Pairs of Shoes
Traversing a huge city like Chicago means tons of walking, tons of exploring and hopefully zero blisters. When I pack shoes, I always look for a mega comfortable sandal, some walking/running shoes and heels for any formal occasion.
For this occasion in particular, I will definitely need a dress to wear to the wedding reception. Additionally though, dresses are great to have in your repertoire because they are a full outfit in one item. I like to bring a few knit and women options as well as a more formal option in this case.
- Easy breathable knit dress (Faherty)
- Pinstripe shirttail dress (H&M)
- Cute summery dress (& Other Stories)
