There is nothing that I love more than a little pop of color in an unexpected place, like a fun wall piece of a colorful throw pillow. That is why when my sister-in-law Alyssa gave me these gorgeous olive wood coasters for Christmas I thought I would add a pop of color to one side of them (I left the other side as solid wood so they are super versatile now depending on the look I am going for!)
To be honest, this simple D.I.Y. update is so quick and easy, I feel a little silly even designating it with a tutorial, however I feel like these coasters have added a fun splash of color to our coffee table ever since I made them, and I think a lot of people would like this addition to their coaster stash! Read below for this super simple five minute update!
Basic Acrylic (in your desired colors)
STEP 1: TAPE YOUR COASTER
Tape off the sections of the coaster that you do not want to get paint on, you can be creative here and make shapes or diagonals if you wanted to (I just chose to make stripes in varying widths).
STEP 2: PAINT ONE SIDE
Paint whichever side you want with whatever color you want. You can have the color wrap all the way around if you want a double sided coaster – I personally wanted to keep one side of this as beautiful olive wood only, but it is up to you. If you choose to paint only one side, it is best that you do not paint the edges of the coaster either. Let this coat dry and then paint a second coat for good measure.
STEP 3: REMOVE TAPE
And voila! All you need to do is remove your tape once the paint is thoroughly dry and now you have a fancy fun new set of coasters!
Have you ever D.I.Y.ed a set of coasters before?
